The fall collection by Nicolas Ghesquiere on 2006 was phenomenal, inspiring competing brands like McQueen in the seasons that followed. Central to it was the creation of volume in heavily gathered or pleated puffs. Have a look here.
Look 14 was by far the most extravagant, made from a silk that looks quilted. It’s continuous grain making it clear that the cape and the voluminous skirt are both constructed from single pieces, cut on the fold. I cut this as my final garment at ‘Innovative Pattern Cutting,’ a graduate course at Central St Martins.
I aim to cut a version of the toile you see in a silk, or material which both drapes and has bounce. Contact me to keep updated on the project.
